Bobby,

I can see where I was a bit opaque. I was just referring to the miracles of our scientific age, brought about through cold, hard science, and I was using our current inter-computer communication as an example. I really don't know about the risk, if any, of radiation from our monitors. Haven't researched it.

My point is that with all of the scientifically created miracles which we see daily proof of in our lives, there is such a pervasive anti-scientific wave out there. I am not referring to religious awakening, but more to "alternative" cures, etc. I was making a perhaps bad joke in referring to "alternative instrument landing systems". Vizualize (for the purposes of the joke) some new age guru "channeling" our jet down through the clouds and rain instead of using all that scientific electronic stuff.

Probably a badly constructed and easily misunderstood post. Sorry.

Jack

Bobby, just trying to catch up. <<radiation from the closeness to monitors?>> This scare started years ago when colour TV first came out. I used to repair them, as well as geiger counters, etc and we had a radio-active source, etc. I used to wear a watch with luminous dials and it put out 300 times more radiation than if you laid underneath the back corner of your TV (where it put out the most radiation). Measured from the front it was negligible. These were tube type TV and have not heard this since transistor sets became popular (1980's). I'd worry more about eye strain and carpal tunnel syndrome.
