Hi Carol, Ha! According to today's USA Weekend, an insert in many major Sunday newspapers, men only have a slight advantage over women when it comes to weight loss, mainly because there is more muscle to burn calories when working out.

But here are some eye-opening statistics.

9 out of 10 on-the job fatalities are men
5 out of 7 victims of traffic accidents are men
4 out of 5 homicide victims are men
at least 4 out of 5 suicides are men
9 out of 10 HIV-related deaths are men. HIV is the #1 cause of death amoung men ages 35-54

Now if you ladies want equality, shouldn't you be contributing more to bring these averages up to parity?

How about some garlic soup?

Super Garlic-Bean
Soup

20 whole garlic cloves,
peeled

1 1/4 cups fat-free
chicken broth or
vegetable broth

1 19-ounce can
undrained white beans,
such as cannellini

2 Tbs. fresh lemon juice

1/2 tsp. dried thyme

Salt and pepper, to taste

Optional garnishes, per
cup of soup:

--1/2 tsp. chopped
parsley
--1 tsp. crumbled goat
cheese
--1/2 tsp. very dry sherry

Place whole garlic
cloves and broth in a
large bowl. Microwave
until garlic is very soft,
about 10 minutes. Put all
ingredients in blender
and pur‚e until smooth.
Return to bowl and
reheat in microwave
about 5 minutes. Put in
serving bowls and add
toppings. Serve with pita
or bagel chips.

Makes 4 cups.

Per cup: 133 calories,
7g protein, 0.6g fat (0g
saturated), 5.5g fiber,
24g carbohydrates,
458mg sodium.
