I remember how in the 70s and 80s a member of Congress could get raked over the coals by the Senate or House Ethics Committee for things like accepting free gifts, a vacations, etc.. It isn't that we have fallen so far that is so bothersome. It's that there is such a pervasive ends-justify-the-means attitude among those who believe they will personally profit. It's all about the money, and nothing else, for some. For the rest of us, echos of Flint Michigan will emerge. Anybody who complains will be a sore loser, to be attacked and driven away. If only there was a parallel in history somewhere...
