Depends on who they picked - if it was Hillary there would be a lot of upset deplorable's (myself among them). Not sure we would riot, but we are much better armed :-)

But what if they picked someone not on the ballot? Ted Cruz, Romney, Bernie Sanders or someone who hasn't even been considered? What of there was widespread rumors of Chinese hackers and pressure on the electors.

Imagine if some group was pressuring or even threatening the lives of electors. Oh... wait

For argument sake let's say the Electors picked someone besides Trump.

I'm not sure there would be a constitutional crisis. I believe under the Constitution whatever the College says goes.

I think this would bigly damage the legitimacy of the political system. It would be a crisis - in the sense that the Constitution would need to be clarified and amended. Otherwise, what's the point in voting - unless the electors are bound (be it by law or by tradition), you're simply participating in electing a micro-oligarchy, a few hundred people - who will elect whomever TF they want. Would make a joke out of the election.

I think the Republic may never completely recover from such an electoral coup.
