Nokia is really in to selling set tops.....................................nokia.com Nokia brings its digital multimedia terminals to Asia Nokia Multimedia Network Terminals launches Asia Pacific operations, and introduces innovative digital satellite/cable receivers for the Asian market at Cable & Satellite Asia 97 (Stand HO1) (Hong Kong - 3 December 1997) -- Today at the Cable & Satellite Asia 97 exhibition in Hong Kong, Nokia officially launched the Asia Pacific operations of Nokia Multimedia Network Terminals. And for the first time in Asia, Nokia demonstrated digital free-to-air satellite receivers and digital cable receivers designed specifically for Asian markets. At the exhibition Nokia Multimedia Network Terminals announced the details of its operations in Asia. Hong Kong has been selected as the location for an Asia Pacific regional headquarters, and an office is currently being set-up. The regional office will support sales offices in Beijing, Sydney, Bangkok and New Delhi. Further offices across the region are planned during 1998. The Nokia Mediamaster range of digital receivers features an advanced modular design to provide support for all routes of bringing digital multimedia into the home. All Mediamasters feature plug and play, on-screen easy to use programme guides (EPG), support Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) and MPEG-2 standards plus SCPC/MCPC, Ku/C band reception. For Asian markets the Mediamaster family features Chinese/Thai/English on-screen displays and dual PAL/NTSC support to give access to all programming formats in Asia. Nokia's technological leadership in this field has been recognised with the recent presentation of the prestigious 'European Satellite receivers of the year 97 - 98' to the Mediamaster from EISA.
