Joey,

Re: "They had a shot with K6-laptop but they seem to be missing the boat (again). Agree??"

AMD truly had a shot with the original introduction of the 233mhz K6 back
on April 2nd. AMD couldn't provide the 233mhz K6 in volume ... the rest
is history (quarterly losses ...).

At .25um, AMD has slipped introduction and performance of CPU's in the
process will be behind Intel by about 2 speed bins. AMD is now in a
worse position now than they were last April ... IF AMD announces a
notebook K6, it will be at a lower voltage (than 2.2V) and at lower
performance (200mhz - 233mhz). By the time they get a notebook win, the
prices and margins will be much less than they are now ... Again a dollar
short and a day late!! IF there is not a major Tier 1 announcement for
an AMD K6 notebook in January (to offset all the 266mhz Intel mobile
products), then AMD will be destined to lose money again in Q1 and Q2!!

Make It So,
Yousef

Outlook for Chipmakers
''If there are any surprises this quarter, they will be negative surprises,'' said Scott Nirenberski, an analyst at Deutsche Morgan Grenfell in San Francisco. ''People haven't factored Asia into their earnings forecasts.''
