Chuck, The translation site is a hoot and could actually be useful if you're willing to make a lot of adjustments but don't rely on it to do courtroom level transation or even to do your kid's homework. I played with it using German, Spanish and French. The German to English was lame at best but you could get the idea if you knew something about the subject matter. The Spanish I picked was a Mexican online newspaper story about the Chiapas rebels and the translation was okay. For French I picked Voltaire's "Candide" since Voltaire writes in a fairly straightforward way. Though the original told me the baroness weighed 350 pounds, the translation said she weighted 350 books (livres). Candide, it claimed, was the "wire" of the baron's sister (fils) and it kept referring to Candide as "it," failing to recognize we were talking about a person.
Nevertheless, for someone who doesn't know a particular language or knows a little of a language, and who is willing to cut the robotranslator a little slack (I wonder what it would do with that sentence), it could be useful.
Best,
-Steve

Chuck, >how well did the program translate German to English??<
I only tried it with the Dresden fab article and got a few chuckles
from the awkward translation. But you can get the drift and it
is better than guesswork.
