Both fundamental and technical analysis should be able to give you insight to a potential takeover. Takeovers rarely happen when a company is overvalued based on the fundamentals of its business although their have been exceptions like Snapple. Furthermore, most takeovers are rarely ever so well kept from the public that their would not be some sort of support in the stock prior to the announcement.

The best way to avoid shorting a company that might be a potential takeover candidate would be to do some valuation calculations and check the fundamentals.

Wayde.

You set buy limit cover stops on every position you short...Usually there is news that leaks out ahead of time, before the big gap.....Sometimes, though, you get zapped.....How about those poor longs who bought AGPH not too long ago....Did you see the nice gap down on that one? I was in it at 45 at the neckline when you had the double top....Note the two heads in the 45-55 range on the chart....The technicals many times foretell what the fundamentals later reveal...Check out the chart on AGPH if you don't believe me...
