Well, I don't know about that. We ended up swapping out Zip drives last night, and that solved the problem. The Zip disc I was using was a brand new yellow one with 10MB of audio files on it. It had been written to twice, and read from once before.

The problem was very clearly with the drive itself. It was genuinely very scary, as I frantically pushed the Zip eject button over and over. After about 8 seconds, it finally expelled it. I thought for sure that the data would be corrupted when we were up and running again, but luckily, it wasn't.
