Steve, you're obviously a nice guy, so you'll appreciate the stretched elegance of this article as it covers both soccer fields and Milton Friedman (.. did you say he was a bum? I didn't.) In particular this sentence seems appropriate. ".. situations that are interpreted as part of a subjective, psychological, and political process, and are then represented by decision makers in certain ways."
