JAG: Nice Info....

The timing of the sale does seem bad (asis Turmoil).. but I think that S3 is taking charge to make a comeback in 1998.

Is it for stock buyback? Perhaps part of it.

Hopefully it's for internal investments. Maybe to help push the entrance in High End Market?

Maybe for R&D..?

Either way... CASH IS KING and this has to propell the stock somewhat.

By the way... for months now people have been saying that the fab value is worth at least 500 -800 million... looks like now it's not even close. Of course, the asian bug has hurt, but looks like we were way off. OR was Lehman Bros. off on their assessment?

As for the Cirrus suit... I doubt this is this is the reason for the sale. But, could be type of insurance just in case.

As for the rest of the equity interest in USC, it appears S3 will still have a substantial value at hand.... hopefully , by time of IPO Asia will have been settled.

It appears to me that the initial payment of the sell would not be recieved until an IPO, along w/ about 45 million in US dollars? Am I reading this right? any opinions?

David

When you compare you have to look at what percentage of sales R&D
represented in these periods. Some of the growth in spending may be
the result of growth in sales.

If should definitely help accelerate product development but if I knew
how quickly the right products would come to market I would be richer
a lot faster. Anyhow, we should see announcements to start before too long.
