Former president Bill Clinton, a New York elector, cast an electoral vote for his wife, Hillary Clinton, Monday. Which also happened to be the anniversary of his own impeachment in 1998.

The former president was one of 29 New York electors to vote for Hillary Clinton, who lost the Nov. 8 election.

Clinton told reporters that the former secretary of state “couldn’t prevail” against the Russians and the FBI after he cast a ballot for her in Albany on Monday.

“I’ve never cast a vote I was prouder of,” Clinton said after he was asked if it was “bittersweet” to vote for his wife.

Clinton blamed his wife’s loss on the controversy surrounding her use of a private email server as secretary of state and the resulting FBI investigation. He also blamed the Russians.

“I watched her work for two years, I’ve watched her battle through that bogus email deal and be vindicated at the end,” Clinton said.

He added that “she fought through everything, and she prevailed against it all.”

“But, you know, with the end we had the Russians and the FBI deal, which she couldn’t prevail against that,” he said.

Clinton has previously blamed FBI Director James Comey for the results of the election.
