the Bloomberg quote was the strangest characterization of deflation that I've ever read:

...deflation -- which he defined as a momentary phenomenon triggered by "a flight from goods to money"

There was a comment on the "Z" thread a day or so back suggesting that the fed would wait so long to lower rates, that when they announce such, it will signal impending depression.

Take a look at the flattening yield curve.

On the computer, I was hinting that you do both. Upgrade the current one to something like modern standard as cheaply as possible and then if you decide to buy another you will have two, which opens a lot of possibilities. The roadmap sets a brisk pace for hardware standards. By all means make that old machine work a little longer if you can. You will be unhappy with a current new one inside 18 months.
