Yup, the deer are like rats here in Washington State - please please shoot more of them!! They ruin everything in the yard. The bucks tear trees to ribbons with their antlers. They are without their natural predators and so the population explodes - until the land can't hold them any longer and the population plummets. There is no good answer here - we have messed up a once balanced world and the more we try to "fix" it, the worse things get.
