What is the downside for them? If they buck it, they lose some of their coalition. If they don't, who will defect? This is all about power. It has nothing to do with reality. This is why I say the Democrats are not quite as bad as the Republicans. The Republicans have been quite willing to ditch reality for fantasy as long as they can win for the past few decades. The Democrats have insisted that reality is, well, real. That likely will change after the Mango Messiah rises to power... And yeah, that means we will no longer be a democracy.
