in this case, Qurious is making a claim that when running all 48 cores as a single system, that anything past 16 cores will be useless. I get his argument for a single compute cluster running 48 cores in a symetric multiprocessing environment, however.....

The systems that are being proposed by Google, FB, AMZN are just super threaded machines and not 48 cores all working as one. They already do this with the 16 core x 86,

Our discussion was when you want a real 48 core multiple procvessing system to act as one huge core. He argues that you must have linux and you must see a collapse around 16 cores. I argue that there is work and basis for running cores wihtout OS, with hw lockng preventions, and being able to process things in parallel. Otherwise the entire GPU processing market would have collapsed years ago. Or the real speedups of Knights landing is not real. Too many real examples the other way to ignore.

I think for certain loadings where the servers are simple tasks such as web serving or page rank searches, the system will fill a huge hole. The builk of the server systems sold are those which do simpler tasks like this. If Qualcomm and Linux can capture 30-50% of this market, then it puts a serious hole in the main stream revenue of intel.

I just think it is going to cost them $1-2B to get there.
