I don't know that, but if it's true, they must have lungs of steel and be very silly to boot. To succeed, singers need a great deal of physical stamina. Their voices take incredible strain during an opera which is why they can't sing nightly. Any smoker-and I was one in college-knows that she will hack and cough because of the habit-if not right away-then down the road. Why risk your voice for that? Dancers often take cocaine, too, or are bulimic, but I don't think it lengthens their dancing lives, or is an argument for doing so!
