They interviewed one of the largest purveyor of fake news. His complaint about fake news aimed at the Left was that it would get forwarded a few times before someone researched it and debunked it. That didn't happen with the stuff aimed at the anti-Hillary crowd. As we have seen with the Pizzagate stuff, even if it got researched and debunked, there are those who would cling to it even tighter.

IMHO, what has happened to journalism and news is the largest repudiation of Libertarian/marketplace ideology that can be found. It turns out that commercial success can actually destroys things rather than optimizing them. But as I've come to realize this should be no surprise if you look at religion. People like lies they are comfortable with, and they will fork over even the widows mites to get more of it, and they will yell and scream at anyone who tries to knock sense into them.
