Alexa,

I'm ROFLOLSTDTD!

Seriously, for so very many years, I have (as a smoker) been aware of many excellent dining and drinking establishments that did not permit smoking. Smoking and nonsmoking diners did have a choice. I know also of a casino in Reno that did not permit smoking anywhere within its walls. Sadly, it went out of business. Smokers and nonsmokers have always had a choice as to where to dine.

Venturing into employee rights, it again comes to choice. Most bartenders of my acquaintance are smokers. In times past but less so today, people had more choice as to where they chose to work, but I can empathize with your employement situation in your younger years. I too have worked as a waitress. The smoke didn't bother me but other things did, like the odor of grease. Try to look at it this way: you worked toward personal betterment and, on your own, you did get beyond it.

Holly

Why not have "Smoking Restaurants"?

Hang a big sign on the door stating:

"This is a SMOKING restaurant, if smoke bothers you, STAY OUT."

I'll buy stock in that restaurant. It's a guaranteed 10 bagger.
