Education is a factor, but field of study is as well. Those who get advanced degrees in science, with the advanced degree from a non-sectarian university tend to be more open-minded. I went through sectarian schools through undergrad (engineering) then a top non-sectarian U for a masters. The church I was from, SDA, has always embraced medical science (they run Loma Linda University which is a well regarded medical school), so they push biology in undergrad institutions, but their graduates almost elusively go into medical fields, not things like ecology or environmental areas. In fact, its tough for them to get jobs in those fields, even though they do get taught basic evolutionary science.
