Hi Rick,

I use Waterhouse Securities as my discount broker and I have recently dived into their dividend reinvestment program. Apparently they take the dividends paid from the stocks in your portfolio and buy partial shares with them without commission or fee. They will also redeem the partial shares when you sell at without comm or fee and with out delay. Your full and partial shares are completely liquid (no 3 week delay to have your shares sent from the transfer agent). The catch is that you will not be able to avoid commissions if you wish to purchase additional shares.

So I guess its a balancing act. But it is a new spin on traditional DRIPs.

Good investing,
John
