This is not a ban. It is a ban of smoking around others. I am for the legalization of marijuana, but I don't want people smoking that around me either. I would use the analogy that follows. If you went to a restaurant to eat and as condition of sitting in almost any restaurant you were forced to imbibe alcohol, would that be fair? Now your reasons to wish not to consume the alcohol could be religious, health realted or personal. Would it not be in the interest of the population of innocent non-drinkers to be protected from people pushing a substance into their body which they did not want. Isn't that invasaion of a body cavity, namely the lungs, very close to assault? I find it so.

Michael, here's a good one. In Greenfield MA there is a local ordnance banning smoking in restaurants, but smoking is permitted in the bar area of the restaurant. Now here's the kicker, the smoker can order snacks, hamburgers, hotdogs, in the bar area but it's unlawful to serve a full meal in the bar area. (there is a special snack menu for the bar) According to the bartender this was added to the ordnance because of political pressure from restaurants that do not have a bar.

Michael:

Here's the problem: in a dangerous, unpredictable universe a significant portion of unthinking, cowardly Americans are pleading with the various governments to enact laws to make the universe safe.

Unfortunately, it won't work. The only result is erosion of liberty.
