Think of evolution as a metaphor for the Republican mind. The fact of the matter remains many times more liberals believe in evolution than conservatives. You know that is true. And no liberals live in the Republican party. The Democratic party is the party for liberals. It is our home. Almost all liberals believe in evolution, that is why scientists are mostly liberals. It has to do with a type of thought. I'm sure you've heard people say that liberals are the reality-based community, and that facts have a liberal bias. Scientists are trained in facts and logic and testing extensively to confirm that the stuff is correct. Conservatives do not bother with a lot of that. They don't do a lot of testing and reproduction in adherence to a strict set of rules to guarantee your answers are correct. It is mostly from the gut. They mostly just think things, and as often as not the things they think are stuff that's been handed down for a long time. But big science is new, and some people embrace the new and some people fight it. Scientists are serious people, we have many in my family, and they are honest and decent and smart as hell. And they couldn't possibly be Republican and eat a Thanksgiving dinner with a table full of people that don't believe in evolution. Or global warming for that matter. Every liberal I know and every scientists I know, believes that there's anthropogenic global warming. Yet the entire Republican Party denies it. Every scientists in the world knows that when 97% of the top atmospheric scientists in the world believe in global warming, that the chances of that not being true are infinitesimally small. So once again how can they sit down to dinner with a bunch of people that deny it without even understanding the importance of the statistical values. But the same is true of social sciences like a progressive income tax, how bad income inequality is for society. Einstein was as good at social sciences as he was at physics. And most Scientists and liberals believe in higher taxes I big government to help society. Republicans believe in small government half not knowing that means throwing grandma under the bus-lol. There are no liberals left in the Republican Party, that is the party of the plutocrats, criminals, crazy people, evangelicals and the poor white person. <<The majority of the Republican Party does not even believe in evolution, let alone global warming. That aspect might keep some scientists away, but those are not the only issues. And then again, according to the poll you stated, 37% of repubs do accept evolution and I infer that the remaining 14% don't care either way. So when you say the majority, there are quite a few that "believe" otherwise.
