You can be an autocrat and take over a democracy, but I don't think you can be a ridiculous autocrat and do that. Time will tell.

Trump may be normalizing ridiculous, too. If half the voters don't recognize ridiculous yet, I don't see how that will change without some additional intervening condition. But, as you say, TWT.

I do think that the D's need a different platform, not just better implementation. "It's the economy, stupid," could use some attention. Plus putting a leash on its own ridiculousness.
