China cannot be as rich as the West because world would ran out of resources before that.

If we take a rich country and China would achieve the level of economic welfare.

The hot cities with air conditioning. The heating in winter. The roads paved, The environment clean...

We would need the whole copper, aluminum, oil, nickel...

The set of circumstances that allowed the US to become rich are no longer there for other countries to emulate.

  • US population was not born there. It was brought in on "as needed basis". Thus the US had resources but no people and Europe had a people's surplus
  • The resources were there plus Canada 'on the side'.
  • The US provided an irresistible carrot: there is freedom here. You can make it here. People came in droves to produce there.
  • Science was booming: electricity, internal combustion engines, drugs, modern weapons, the telephone network, water supply by plumbing...
  • They did not throw overboard the Common Law, not changed the language as many stupid countries did after getting independent.

This special set of circumstances cannot be replicated today.
You can't develop rich economy with the Internet and digital technologies. They don't bring the same level of impulse to the economy as electricity, internal combustion engines, drugs, modern weapons, the telephone network did to the US
