Paying twice the money for a box of cornflakes doesn't make sense yet the smart-set does.


Possible reasons:

0) Ignorance. "Smart" people can be quite ignorant of certain things.
1) Snobbery
2) Logistics - Walmart too out of the way
3) Time - long lines at cashiers
4) Some combination - sometimes you need one or two items, so occasionally you go to the expensive place.

Many examples where people will pay more for convenience.

Starbucks in the morning - hey how much does a cup of coffee at home cost?
