The falling off of the black was enough to make me wonder if Democrats can win the POTUS without an African-American at the top of the ticket. There's also some nascent stirrings of independance. In its original manifesto published by the Black Lives Matter movement and available on its website was the pronouncement that BLM was not going to affiliate itself with a political party. Included was the statement/warning that Democrats should not 'take the black vote for granted'.

Sometime this past summer, their manifesto was rewritten and both statements were eliminated.

Nevertheless, I suspect the black vote is up for grabs. They have been hurt by cheap Mexican labor, and O did nothing I know of to benefit the inner cities. If Trump brings jobs, it's a whole new ball game.
