I was most surprised to learn that apparently NC has been shifting to the left in terms of state government.

The Raleigh Durham area is drawing a lot of educated people from elsewhere, you know, those *%^#! cosmopolitan elites. <g> Also retirees encroaching from those blue places further north. <g> NC seems to be trending somewhat Mid Atlantic.

NC had 17 days of early voting before the days were cut. To me that seems excessive.

Can't argue with that. I don't really "get" early voting. I would think that a single weekend, maybe two, would take care of whatever purpose is served. On its face I don't see like vote suppression in cutting back. Had the reduction in days been done without the 'tude, I would not thought anything about it. It may have been that the state was stuck with excessive flexibility due to special treatment under the Voting Rights Act and just wanted to be more reasonable, more cost effective. But then there's the 'tude...

On second thought, it may be that the number of days doesn't mean what I thought it did. I'm too lazy and disinterested to look it up. It might be that they have traveling teams that open the polls for one day in 21 locations, not that all locations are open for 21 days. In which case, that would not be excessive.
