<<<<<The idea that US taxpayers bailed out GM rankles me. So our bailed out US company gives good skilled jobs to Mexico>>>>>

Oh my gosh, what a good point. The tariff doesn't have to be 35%, but lets put some kind of penalty to those companies that put more priority on their management salaries than they place on their American workers. Take that tariff money and put it to use on infrastructure projects here. It is all about a mind set isn't it?

The idea that US taxpayers bailed out GM rankles me.

Me as well, but my reason is connected to the reason I don't want government to try to tell companies where they can produce or sell. The government should butt out neither trying to help companies, nor hurt them, not control most of what they do.

That's not an absolute with me, but its what I think should be the basic default and very good reasons would be needed to stray from it even to a small degree or for a short time.
