You have misunderstood me. I think people have every right to own guns- it's stupid people who store them badly that I have a problem with. I also think it should be harder for Very Stupid People to get guns- think voting laws (the way republicans want them) but for guns- I actually think it should be harder to get a gun- much harder- than it is to vote. But I don't want to take the 2nd amendment away. I DO want criminal penalties for people who leave their guns around for children and others to murder already born people who are undeniably human already (I'm really tired of kids shooting kids, accidentally or otherwise, with their parents/grandparents/uncles/aunts/stepparents/friends guns)- and anyone who claims to be prolife ought to be for that too, if they want to be consistent. Not that people want to be consistent...

But if you think it's necessary to pander in an extreme way to the gun lobby- sure. I'd still vote dem. I have many other issues when they support that I think are important. Those guns are never getting off the streets- as you say, so if the dems need to do that, have at it.

See how amenable I am:-)

We're never going to get America's guns out of their 'cold dead hands' anyway.

I strongly agree. Gun control is a loser issue. They keep brandishing the flag--for in-group solidarity purposes, I guess, or because they've been doing it so long it's a reflex. Seems to me it triggers more opposition than it benefits the D's.

Hard to affirmatively shift gears, though. You can't just drop it from the platform without anyone noticing.
