Several notes: On Saturday, Brinker made short work of the Fools
especially with regard to the so-called "Fools 4" strategy. Suffice
it to say, it seems to work well if you pick the right four issues. To
be sure, Brinker reiterated his bias toward a more general market
approach. Indeed, on Sunday, it came as some little surprise when
Brinker announced he does not own the Vanguard 500 fund, only
the Vanguard Total Market fund.

Has anyone noted that the bull/bear ratio recorded on the opening
page on Silicon Investor Stock Talk has been surging of late and
now favors bulls over bears more than two to one? Granted this
sentiment indicator is highly anecdotal, but does this recent bullish
surge unsettle anyone else here?

To update our own Alan Whirlwind's medical condition (Alan is
apparently undergoing a double lung transplant), we have this
from another thread:

From: J. Nelson
Sunday, Jan 4 1998 9:24AM EST

I did make a call just now, and Mr. Gust (Alan Whirlwind) is still
with us after the surgery; the nurse I spoke with said he is still
in Intensive Care and will be for a few days. They will allow
anyone outside the family to call at that time when he is taken
out of the I/C unit.

The phone number in Milwaukee is 1-414-259-3000 for Froedtert
Memorial Hospital.

So far, we are in the light with our friend and the prayers are
working. So, come on Alan; we miss you!

God speed you to recovery, Sir Alan.
