As I have many posters on ignore, I may miss personal attacks, which includes name calling. As I've said in the header, tattle!

"It is bentway's board and he gets to decide whether it is to be an echo chamber like, um, certain other boards on this thread."

I have no idea what other boards on this thread you are talking about... (I am sure you mean boards on SI)

There are many subjects on SI with a single slant to their politics. They are only "echo chambers", really, if no one ever disagrees- though it is fun to call the other sides threads "echo" chambers. I'm sure I've done it myself- but on the other hand, I also think the separation is generally healthy. But I don't like constant aggression. I can certainly respond to it, but I just don't enjoy it. Do you find the threads on the right to be echo chambers- or do you think that applies to the left leaning ones only? I do not find that to be the case on the left wing ones- and I assumed the right leaning ones also had disagreement. What is left out, on those threads, is the "gotcha" posting, and the constant sniping (at least on my threads. I like friendly groups of people. It's just more...natural, to me.) I don't find naked aggression to be all that "interesting" or "thoughtful" and I certainly don't find it leads to better discussions. I've never, in real life, had an unqualified person psychoanalyze me as an attack (for an example). Has this ever happened to you? It's not like it means anything- but it's mean, and unpleasant and rude- which, of course, you can "play" at on the internet- but is that interesting? Is that thoughtful? Does it make you want to "discuss" things? Not me. Hence my threads will people I like, who, even if they disagree with me, or others, generally do it pretty nicely.

But we all have our little quirks.

I will leave you to your "better discussion". Chacun a son gout.
