Director appointed

Poplar Resources Ltd PPX
Shares issued 16,155,679 Jan 2 close $0.25
Mon 5 Jan 98 News Release
Mr Gennen McDowall reports
Bernt Honeth has been appointed to the board of directors. Mr Honeth is a
mining engineer with considerable experience in diamond exploration and
development in South Africa, an area where Poplar has important diamond
interests. He has served as managing director for mining companies in South
Africa, Scandinavia and Canada, and is currently the managing director of
Savannah Diamondfields. Mr Honeth will be working full time developing the
Aardvark and Barkly West diamond-fissure projects in South Africa that were
assembled by Savannah Diamondfields. Poplar has an agreement with Savannah
whereby Poplar can earn up to 60% of that company as reported in Stockwatch
November 19 and 20 1997.
The Aardvark and Barkly West kimberlite fissure systems are in the
traditional Theunissen and Barkly West diamond fields, and are comparable
to the Klipspringer diamond fissure being developed by SouthernEra. A
recent consultant's report by Dr Raymond Davies indicates that the Aardvark
and Barkly West fissure properties are diamondiferous. These projects
contain between them a complex system of kimberlite fissures, or dykes,
with attendant blows or small pipes, as well as mineable tailings, alluvial
gravels and kimberlite pipes.
Mr Honeth hopes to begin bulk sampling early in 1998. Prospecting permits
are currently being applied for and are expected to be issued in January or
February 1998. He is also hoping to expand the two properties through
further acquisitions and more detailed mapping of the current systems.
