I see political clustering at major metro regions on this 2016 election counties map (not political diversity). I have lived l, in urban, suburban and outside of urban areas. Outside of the inner city people are not all of one kind as you claim, they are quite diverse. This year there was a lot of swinging from blue to red. Personally I am not effected but I do find it politically meaningful.
