Full duplex printers print one side, then automatically pull the paper back in and print the other side without the user having to re-load the first print. For multi-page documents, you just print once and don't have to handle the paper until the job is complete.

With manual duplex (or even/odd printing, as you suggest) as long as you load the first print back into the feed tray in the correct orientation you're good, but you do have to pay attention to the process or you will end up having to shred what you've just printed.

The HP I mentioned is a full duplex printer.
