In the early days I'd drop by Walmart and buy McAfee or Norton each year. Then we got all this free stuff. I used Avast for many years until they jumped on the 24/7 balloons popping up everywhere advertising and telling me every time it started I needed to buy it even though I told it I will not buy it.

My choice in April is install Win7 and buy protection, stay with Vista and buy protection or move back to Linux.

Staying with Vista ain't a bad idea. It'll be fine until the multimedia and browser companies drop upgrades and Vista will no longer display content.
