jbn3... I agree with your comments. Sorry to have gotten onto another track, except to add that sometimes progress and individual rights are inseperable. Its interesting isn't it, that commercialism, TV's, computers, cell phones are such potent political instruments of world view. Regarding consumption, from an ecological view and appreciation of how polluting much of what the US consumes does to mother Earth, I wonder about how the next generations will usher in third world consumption... the per capita energy cost is too high here and the damage to resources too severe. Its a puzzle that walks a very fine line. Jim

jbn3- Hi - Imagine if 50% of 1.9 billion Indians Chinese start emitting 20000Kg /head of Carbon Monoxide- 75 kg/head of Nitrogen and 90 Kg of SO2 add to this solid hazardous waste of 750 kg/head and 3100 kg /head of solid industrial waste with a topping item of 700 kg/head of solid municipal waste - this is the pollution and waste every US citizen generates. Average consumption/head kg coal equivalent 300 for an Indian and nearly 11000 kg/head coal equivalent for a US citizen.

The poor of this world will pay and are paying the price of pollution without enjoying the benefits- 70% of the world pollution is generated by 20% of 5.7 billion population of the earth the other 80% population generates only 30% of waste.

Is it not equitable that we the polutors of world give a helping and to nations whose heritage we are so cruelly destroying. We all have rights on territory of our geographical boundries but when incident like 'Chernobyl' occur humanity at large suffer. It is most injust that poverty ridden societies will suffer from increase incdents of cancers and pollution related illnesses without participating in the luxuries. I am not a green rather a free market econometeer cannot be a green but I am a firm supporter of environment tax to alleviate problems of pollution and transfer resources and proceeds to make life of billions of co-habitants of this big blue a little more affordable.

I can't agree more with your suggestions on ASEA- look at Mexico in less than three years it has been the best developing markets of 97. Nice to hear from you after long. Good luck with Dell.
