A SATA cable is faster as you don't have to mount the drive in a USB case.

Thanks. Once the drive is mounted though in an external case, is the SATA-USB cable any faster, or does the one USB end of the cord determine the transfer speed? (I'm thinking of a permanent or long term external and not just a one time transfer or troubleshooting)
