Streep's diatribe also diverted attention away from the reason they were there. And the beat goes on. Can't remember when I've ever had such an influx of smug and snarky feelings not to mention all the overwhelming schadenfreude. All those supporters are turning on her for wrecking the evening for them. They wanted to celebrate, not get lectured to. The nominees, winners and members of the foreign press who underwrote this shindig are particularly pissed. Their whole night was ruined by her crap. It's showing up on social media and their FB pages. All the ladies who spent days/weeks getting ready to appear on the red carpet and spent $$s to look good got no coverage because the media focused on Streep - not the red carpet and the outfits. Hollywood is full of egos. They really are more interested in themselves and don't like getting pushed aside. She pulled the rug out from under all of them and denied them their night in the spotlight. Fun to watch.
