I was looking for an explanation not of the impact, which is obvious, but the motivation.

But why ask me? You might look at that reality TV show about the Duggar family (sp??). They seemed proud of themselves, and there must have been lots of interested viewers.

I'm sure there are social studies papers on the subject of why poorer people reproduce at higher rates. IIRC, in the 3rd world its somewhat linked to infant mortality, and also its seen as the SS for old age of the parents.

Many religious folks feel children are miracles gifted to them by God. They should have as many as possible. Most of them vote Republican, if they vote.
