Well, let's see... this is his 10th season as head coach in Pittsburgh... he's won division titles in 5 of 10 seasons, been to the playoffs in 7 of 10 seasons... won 1 Super Bowl and lost 1 (how many coaches active today have taken their teams to the SB 2 or more times the past 10 years? Not many...)...

He coaches in one of the more passionate NFL cities in terms of the fans... I have a friend who lives there and has never been able to get season tickets (or some seasons, ANY tickets, even scalped) over the last 30 years, so he became a concession worker who works the stadium aisles so he could get in the stadium and sort of watch games)... anyway, big football town, with owners who have NFL in their blood and a team with rich history and a lot of success... not hard to believe there are strong feelings about the head coach both positive and negative...

However, I like him well enough... I think he's a good head coach... maybe not the best, but looking around at a lot of other teams, I don't think Tomlin has been holding the Steelers back.

He's 103-57 in regular season games over the last 10 years... worst seasons ever were back to back 8-8 seasons so he's never had a losing season as head coach in 10 years... how many coaches can make that claim who have been coaching at least 10 years? Again, not many...

He's 7-5 in the post season, so that's not stellar, but still pretty good when you consider he's gone to 2 SBs and won one of them...

Tomlin is 29-29 over 10 years in terms of challenges won/lost in that time... not stellar, but not too bad considering... an interesting stat I like to check for any coach...

He's still the youngest coach to take a team to the SB (interesting when you consider the year prior to that, the Steelers had the youngest QB to win a SB and then Tomlin comes in, etc.)...

Let's see... he won Coach of the Year in 2008... he's tied with Madden with 103 wins in 10 seasons (though, to be fair, Madden coached during shorter seasons and went 103-32 vs. Mike's 103-57)... Tomlin's teams have finished with an average division rank of 1.7, never finishing below 3rd in their division...

Over the last 10 years, only the Pats have won more regular season games...

Having survived the dubious coaching history in San Diego for 30 years, I think I like Mike just fine all things considered and wonder why so many "hate" him...
