Oh boy, you go way back. When I was playing with tin foil on antennas, we didn't even have a team here in Boston. Football fans here considered the NY Giants their home team. And to this day, there are old folks around who still love the Giants.

The immaculate reception was the turning point for the Steelers and put them on the national map. Those great teams of the 70s and the continued excellence all these years has resulted in a bit of a national following. As for Tomlin, he has the wins and the championships. But sometimes I wonder about him when he can't manage a clock or makes some other sideline coaching error.

Nice post EK. Too bad you're not old enough to remember the Steagles of the 40s.

The Steelers are my 2nd favorite team. I latched onto them when they drafted Franco Harris out of Penn State and being that the Eagles were completely pathetic at the time, I needed a 2nd team with potential as a 12 year old.

I like Tomlin but sometimes question his decisions during games (reference Dallas game early in the season). I think he benefits from having Big Ben who I believe will be first ballot HOF. Their skill positions on offense are also top notch. I give Tomlin credit. He won a SB after replacing a legend (Cowher) who also replaced the best coach in Steelers history (Chuck Noll)
