I suppose I'm a 'cultural Christian',because my parents took me to church every Sunday, although neither believed in it. For my mom. church was a fun social activity where she could meet other women and talk. For my dad and my mom, going to church made us seem normal, and part of the community. For my dad, it kept mom happy.

Mom told me she thought it was important we kids were exposed to religion. Dad told me just to shut up and do what mom wanted.

I kept going, but actually skipping Sunday school when I was about 13, and just showing up for the sermon after that. My dad began going to sleep during the sermon and snoring loudly. Mom would wake him up. Shortly after that, we all stopped going entirely.

I'm now agnostic. I see all religions as primitive superstitions, as valid as Santa Claus. I know a lot about Mormons because I lived in Salt Lake City for ten years.
