These tactics were deployed in the '60s and '70s, first against President Lyndon Johnson and then against Richard Nixon.

It was different back then. There was a slowly rising tide of public sentiment against the ongoing quagmire of Viet Nam and the hated military draft. A war that the politicians wouldn't commit to win and also wouldn't just get the country the hell out of. The protesters were swimming with the current and the leftist crap that came with a lot of the protests was just so much baggage that was disregarded by mainstream America.

On the other hand, the current assortment of Trump hating protesters are not only swimming against the current of public opinion, but IMO, their tactics in protesting will prove to be counter productive to what they hope to accomplish. All their hissing and spitting and black helicopter fantasies will just push them further into electoral irrelevance in future elections. They just don't get it that they're pissing into the wind..
