Yes, good news just keeps on coming. IC Insights just forecast that INTC's 1998 capital spending budget would increase by 20% over 1997. And Motorola/Siemen's JV announced plans for a new 300 mm pilot fab in Germany, and a plant in Virginia. The US plant should be operational by 2000.

This industry works backwards from most manufacturing/capital goods industries. In bad times, companies spend big dollars on semi equipment to gain a tech edge versus competition and grab markat share. Interesting.
