Percent of stations reaching 105 F is a useful measure of both warming and extreme weather. The 1930's were hotter than the present and last year was no way the warmest ever. Which year was hotter in the US - 1936 or 2016? 2016 wasn’t a hot year in the US. The area of the US affected by very hot weather was near a record low. Eighty years ago, 105F temperatures were widespread throughout the US, except for New England and Florida. But now, only a tiny percentage of the US reaches 105F.
