They do expire on the third Friday of the month. However, the stock may be called away sooner if the holder of the option wishes to exercize them American options have this feature as opposed to European options, which can be exercized only at maturity. Due to this American optons have a slightly higher value). I have had that happen to me before - which makes me very wary of writing close to the money covered calls. Longer term and deep out of the money covered calls have usually been a better bet for me.

Regards and happy new year to you.

I understand that SUNW buys the majority of their "high end" drives from Seagate ....does Seagate's preannouncement today of lower than expected earnings foreshadow a potential quarterly revenue shortfall for SUNW?

From Briefing.com: "...(SEG) disk drive maker expects to report a substantial operating loss for the 2nd qtr, due to continued pricing pressure and weak demand for drives..."

Or was SUNW able to take advantage of the competitive market prices when building their systems and Seagate ate the loss?

I hope it is the latter and Seagate's problem is company specific but I did notice that several disk drive makers have warned recently. I assume that the total number of "high end" disk drive units are still growing and it's just that the unit prices have been falling significantly.

Hey, it may be a net positive for Sunw after all. I guess we will all know by the 15th.

Good Luck
