Presstek Acquires Heath Custom Press

HUDSON, N.H., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Presstek, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRST - news) today announced that it has acquired Heath Custom Press, Inc. of Seattle, Washington, an established designer and manufacturer of custom printing presses.

Presstek stated, ''We are delighted to welcome Heath Custom Press, with its substantial experience and know-how in the design of innovative custom printing presses, to develop and build concept presses as part of the Presstek family of companies.''

''Together with its intellectual property portfolio, Heath's 20 plus years of design experience will contribute to Presstek's continuing development of new applications for its laser imaging technology. Presstek can now produce prototype and preproduction new concept designs and applications in a more timely and cost effective manner for the changing requirements of the graphic arts industry.''

Ross Peterman, who will continue as president of Heath, stated, ''We look forward with excitement to contributing to Presstek's cutting edge product line with innovative concepts and solutions for the graphic arts industry. There are numerous applications for specialty presses and equipment which can utilize Presstek's thermal imaging systems and plate products.''

Heath was purchased for 94,865 shares of unregistered Presstek common stock and will operate as a subsidiary of the Company according to Presstek's president, Robert E. Verrando. Heath Custom Press will continue to be based in Seattle, Washington. The transaction will not involve any workforce reduction. Heath Custom Press is Presstek's second subsidiary; the first, Delta V Technologies, which recently changed its name from Catalina Coatings, is a leading manufacturer of vacuum deposition equipment, headquartered in Tucson, Arizona.

Presstek, Inc., founded in 1987, has developed PEARL(R) a patented, proprietary non-photographic, toxic-free, digital imaging and printing plate technology for the printing and graphic arts industries on a worldwide basis. PEARL's thermal laser diode system is capable of imaging various types of Presstek printing plates either off-press or on-press to produce high quality, full-color lithographic printed materials. Presstek is also engaged in the development of additional products and applications that incorporate its proprietary PEARL technologies and consumables, including both computer-to-plate and
other direct-to-press applications.
