The Financial Post reports in its Saturday edition that Victor Flores, a Texas-based gold analyst for Marleau Lemire of Montreal, likes Barrick Gold and Euro-Nevada Mining. Reporter Paul Bagnell says that Mr Flores also names smaller companies like Crown Resources, which closed 1997 at $4.90, Sutton Resources and Greenstone Resources as undervalued gold stocks well
worth a look from investors. Mr Flores says that gold's fortunes will turn around when short-sellers begin covering their positions en masse, possibly creating a gold rally that will endure. He says that before that can happen, pessimistic thinking on gold must ease. Many gold watchers are hoping that will happen when the new European Central Bank reveals how much gold it plans to hold as reserves. An announcement is expected sometime in
1998.
