64MDRAM Production Continues Over Holidays

Samsung Electronics announced that the price of the 16MDRAM chip has
dropped to a spot price of US$4, but that 64MDRAM chip is now between
US$22 and US$25 and is in short supply, so the company plans to keep its
Kiheung plant in full operation during the holiday season. Samsung will
increase production from 6 million units a month to 7 million early 1998 and is
scheduled to begin production of the 128MDRAM in the third quarter. It is
targeting sales of US$6.7 billion to US$6.8 billion.

Hyundai Electronics is to stop production of the 16MDRAM chips over the
new year, but along with LG will also continue operations at its 64MDRAM
plant where it produces 5 million a month. Both companies plan to focus on
64MDRAM and 128MDRAM chips in 1998.
